A first week full of new friendships, discoveries and small but significant beginnings
The first week at Big Bang School came to a close with smiles, new friendships, play, collaboration and many different beginnings.
From our Grade 1 pupils taking their first steps at school to the older classes taking on new roles and responsibilities, each group began to find its own rhythm and build its own identity.
We became reacquainted with our spaces and daily routines, played, worked together and explored what it means to be a team. The older pupils became school ambassadors, welcoming the Grade 1 children and showing them around, while other classes took on real needs within the school: caring for our spaces, learning about composting and taking responsibility for managing it.
At the same time, learning began from the very first week.
Reading, comprehension and language production, grammar, vocabulary, mathematics, research and the use of sources gave us opportunities to gradually get back into the rhythm of learning.
And, of course, there were moments that encouraged us to see the world from a different perspective: through hands-on activities and discussions about diversity, empathy, responsibility and the changes we can bring about ourselves.
Because the first week is not simply preparation for what comes next. It is already part of learning.
An opportunity to get to know one another, observe, take responsibility, collaborate and begin building the community in which this school year will unfold.
We have only just begun. And we still have so much to discover.
